HPU Welcomes New Hires to the HPU Family

High Point University issued the following announcement on February 25.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 25, 2022 – High Point University recently welcomed several new team members. They are as follows:

New Hire Amirah SimsAmirah Sims joined the Office of Student Life as a resident director.

Sims oversees both North College Court and the university-owned houses. Before coming to HPU, she was the resident director at another university. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is currently studying for her master’s degree in counseling psychology.

New hire Corey FlackCorey Flack joined the Department of Nursing as an administrative assistant.

Flack will help Dr. Racquel Ingram, chair of the Department of Nursing, welcome the first cohort of nursing students this fall. Before coming to HPU, she was an administrative assistant at a university in the general and hospital medicine department. She graduated in 2018 with a certification in medical office administration. Her goal is to ensure students are successful in HPU’s nursing program.

New Hire Dominique JonesDominique Jones joined the Office of Career and Professional Development.

Jones is the employer relations and events coordinator in the office, where she helps to maintain relationships with employer partners who hire HPU students. She’s also in charge of coordinating events, such as HPU’s annual Career and Internship Expos. Before coming to HPU, she worked as a business development representative for a software company that works with nonprofits and higher education institutions. Jones has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and integrated marketing communication, as well as an MBA.

New Hire Ally StrasenAlly Strasen joined the Office of Student Life as a CARE case manager.

In this role, she provides case management and organization for student cases and assists in the Office of Student Life’s CARE outreach and support. This role primarily helps students adjust to the college environment by supporting their academic, social and emotional transitions. Strasen previously worked in the same office as a COVID case manager. She has a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and a Master of Arts in special education.

New Hire Dylan CorteseDylan Cortese is the program assistant for the Standardized Client Program in HPU’s Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy.

Cortese helps pharmacy students enhance their clinical skills in the school’s simulation labs. He brings standardized clients – local community members who act as patients – to campus to participate in learning scenarios with students. Prior to HPU, he worked as a customer service specialist. He has also served as a standardized client with the simulation lab since October 2020. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in pre-professional exercise science.

New Hire Christina CavanaughChristina Cavanaugh joined HPU’s library as the print shop manager.

She helps students, faculty and staff with print orders and maintains HPU’s print shop. She assists with print requests from departments and clubs from across campus. Cavanaugh has worked in a variety of creative fields, including with the city of Winston-Salem. She has an associate degree in digital effects and animation and a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and media arts.

New Hire Angela ParksAngela Parks joined the Office of Academic Services as a department administrator.

In her role, she plays a vital part in connecting students, staff and families to valuable resources, services and programs throughout campus. Parks previously worked as a mental health clinician, providing individual and family outpatient counseling services. She has more than 15 years of professional social service experience, is a United States Army Veteran, a self-published author and a small nonprofit business owner. Parks has a M.S.W. in social work, M.A. in children, youth and family ministry, and a B.S.W. in social work. She also has earned multiple certificates, certifications and awards throughout her professional career.
