WS/FCS Board of Education Votes to Make Masking Optional as of Feb. 28, 2022

Face

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools issued the following announcement on February 22.

February 22, 2022 - The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education has voted to lift the current mask requirement for students and staff. This means that masks will now be optional in all district school buildings and facilities effective Monday, February 28, 2022.   The board made the decision at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

Newly updated North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines within the StrongSchoolsNC Toolkit took effect this week. Those new guidelines do say students who test positive or are exposed to a positive individual must still wear a mask for at least 5 days after their exclusion.

Symptomatic individuals will still be required to wear a mask while waiting to leave a school/facility or to be tested. N95 masks will continue to be available to all WS/FCS employees. COVID-19 testing is available to students and staff at all schools.

Masks are still required to be worn on buses and all WS/FCS transportation as required by a federal regulation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The WS/FCS health services team will continue to review COVID data on a daily basis and will report the data monthly to the Board of Education for mask recommendations.
