HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 14, 2022 – High Point University invites the community to campus for an exciting lineup of cultural events. The spring schedule includes a variety of exhibits, speakers, art, music and theater performances.

HPU’s Annual MLK Jr. Day Worship Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17 in Hayworth Chapel on campus. This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Elwood Robinson, chancellor of Winston-Salem State University. Music will be led by Genesis Gospel Choir and guest musicians. Each year, this worship service serves to awaken the faithful witness of Dr. King for our lives here and now. This event is free and open to the public.
“Time Like Water” is a play that will be performed at HPU’s Culp Planetarium. The showings are from Feb. 10 to 12 at 7:30 p.m. Audiences are invited to a representation of a wedding and marriage in the planetarium. This show examines the physical and emotional nature of time and love, using the wonder and majesty of the planetarium space. “Time Like Water” features theater, dance, music, visual art and astrophysics. The High Point University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Associate Professor of music, Dr. Brian Meixner, presents a Valentine’s Day weekend concert titled, “Be My Valentine.” The concert is on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. in Hayworth’s Fine Arts Center. This concert will feature junior music major, Reyna Alston, as composer and conductor, and senior voice majors, Stephanie Stone and Jerry Hurley. Musical selections come from the Broadway musical, “West Side Story,” plus other music celebrating love and all things Valentine’s Day. No tickets are needed and all are welcome to attend.
MLK Worship Service 2
HPU’s Annual MLK Worship Service will feature music by the Genesis Gospel Choir. The service is on Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. in Hayworth Chapel, and it is free and open to the public.
The first event in the Mathematical Sciences Colloquium Series is on Wednesday, February 16 at 3:30 p.m. The virtual event will feature guest speaker Dr. Rebecca Garcia, professor of mathematics at Sam Houston State University. Her lecture is titled, “An Introduction to Sandpiles,” which will take a deeper look at the sandpile model and the algebraic structures attached to it. The university invites you to learn more about the theory, the celebrated results and an ongoing project that showcases some of the unresolved fundamental questions accessible to students.

“Evolution”, the spring dance concert will be performed March 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The spring concert will feature eight new works with choreography by students Abby Williamson, Alison Carroll, Connie Quagliata, Lauren Johnson, Melanie Fitts, Olivia Keider, Quinn Van Popering and Tabitha McGuire.
