How have you been personally impacted and changed through your experiences at HPU?

During my time at HPU, I have expanded my life skills and developed in so many ways that will assist me as I start my career. HPU has enabled me to differentiate myself – primarily due to all the leadership and learning opportunities that have been afforded to me. I have gained long-lasting relationships and friendships with professors, staff and other students. The Office of Career and Professional Development and my Success Coach have made such an impact by helping me gain more confidence in my ability to tackle any challenge and encouraging me to take steps that will ensure a successful future.

If a high school student asked you why to attend HPU, what would you say?

High school students should attend High Point University because it’s a life skills university. Although academics are the primary focus at HPU, the university emphasizes the importance of life skills, which are essential in preparing students for the real world. There are so many opportunities for students to get involved in campus activities and service, on campus and within the community. As a freshman, I realized how many opportunities there were to get involved with clubs, student government, fraternal organizations and more. I have been blessed to have leadership roles with the Student Government Association, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Senior Leadership Cabinet and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Through these leadership roles, I have gained real-life experience.

HPU encourages a growth mindset, entrepreneurial spirit and the importance of serving others. As a student, I realized I could serve my community and create an everlasting legacy in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. HPU provides a platform for students to become inspiring leaders who can make an impact on campus, within our communities and around the world. HPU encourages students to make a difference. The statues of great historical leaders lining the Kester International Promenade are examples of encouraging reminders from HPU. Based on HPU’s inspiring environment, I knew that I could create an everlasting impact, while learning the skills it takes to become an extraordinary leader.  HPU prepares you to become the best person you can be – one who will make positive contributions in the world.

What’s one way you generate creativity or productivity?

My faith in God enables me to start my day with a positive mindset. In addition, I like to watch videos and listen to podcasts focused on motivation, leadership and success. Through this, I am more creative and productive since I am constantly learning something new. I like learning about different ways to become a better leader, how to inspire others and what others have done to become successful. As a result, I am encouraged, my mind is creative and I have thoughts that confirm I can do what I set my mind to do.

What is your favorite quote?

“The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.”  – Kobe Bryant

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is the Smith Library. The library is a quiet space where I can focus on my academic assignments and be the most productive.

What is your favorite sculpture on campus?

My favorite sculpture on campus is the sculpture of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He is the type of leader that I aspire to be. Seeing his sculpture every day on campus constantly reminds me that with hard work and dedication, I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

What do you love most about being a student at HPU?

One thing I love most about being a student at HPU is the opportunity to inspire other college students, and encourage and serve younger students in the High Point community. It’s a pleasure to show others that you can be driven by your passion. If you work hard and remain determined, you can achieve your goals.
