How HPU helped you get there: “My experiences at HPU demonstrated that I have the fortitude to stick to my goals despite challenges that are unique to our campus culture. My focus was enhanced by filtering the positive and supportive messaging from the noise. The resources at HPU are excellent but they are only beneficial if you take full advantage of them. I used the Office of Career & Professional Development’s job board Handshake, and my own LinkedIn profile to grow my network, as well as tools provided by HPU to properly prepare for career development and alignment. After securing the position, I was invited to meet with the executive team for dinner at an upscale restaurant. I felt very comfortable having dined at 1924 Prime on HPU’s campus and learning the life skills required to give the best impression. High Point University prepared me to be confident and present my best self in any setting.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Holcombe who taught my Business Communications and Business Career Bootcamp courses. After a successful corporate career, she chose to help students navigate a path to achieve success based on their value system and personal goals.”

What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?: “My internship experience was wonderful. I spent the summer working with an affordable housing developer and did a rotation working directly with the managers of Accounting, Asset Management, Project Management and Operations. I was a part of a solution oriented organization that helped individuals and families transition from homelessness to quality, affordable housing. I plan to work as a Real Estate Analyst post graduation and this experience demonstrated that I have the skill set, education and gravitas to be successful in this industry.”
