High Point University issued the following announcement on September 30.
This group of students began their education in June of 2020. This is their second year in the program, and they are moving into the clinical phase of their training.
The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at HPU confers a white coat on each student to symbolize their entrance into the clinical phase of their PA education. The white coat symbolizes the professionalism, care, and trust required of a compassionate physician assistant.
“We were challenged by our medical director to participate in everything we could during our clinical rotations as we are now actively participating in medicine,” said Mallary Clay, who received her white coat in the Callicutt Auditorium in Congdon Hall. “We received our white coats like we were receiving team jerseys, and now it truly feels like we are fighting on the front lines with our preceptors. We are grateful to have the chance to reflect on the previous 15 months and excited for what the next year brings!”
HPU launched the master’s degree program in physician assistant studies in June 2015.
“It was an honor to formally welcome the Class of 2022 into the clinical phase of their PA education through this White Coat Ceremony,” said James Johnson, chair and program director of physician assistant studies. “They have worked diligently through their didactic phase despite the curricular delivery challenges linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t wait to follow their progress as they complete their PA education and move into their careers.”
