HPU Welcomes New Hires in July

High Point University issued the following announcement on August 13.

HIGH POINT, N.C., August 13, 2021- High Point University welcomed 12 new hires in the month of July. They are as follows:

HPU Nicole Hundt

Nicole Hundt

Nicole Hundt joined HPU’s Office of Student Life as director of housing operations.

Hundt assists with room assignments for both incoming and upperclassman students, as well as certain housing accommodation requests. Hundt directs and assists with supervising the operations of all HPU room reservations. Prior to coming to HPU, she was the assistant director of residence and student involvement and Title IX coordinator at Saint Mary’s College. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English literary studies and a Master of Education in student affairs.

HPU Kara Owens

Kara Owens

Kara Owens joined HPU as administrative assistant for the Department of Medical Sciences.

As administrative assistant, Owens is the liaison between the Department of Medical Sciences faculty and various other HPU departments. She assists with marketing and provides customer service on the new exclusive online program. Owens has more than 10 years of experience working in both an administrative and marketing capacity for multiple companies across various industries. Owens holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications and media relations.

HPU Kayleigh Michie

Kayleigh Michie

Kayleigh Michie joined the Office of Communications as coordinator of university events.

Michie is responsible for helping coordinate various types of university events and oversees the community enrichment series. Her experience includes event-related internships with Hilton, Comcast and the High Point Arts Council. Michie graduated in May from HPU with a dual degree in event management and criminal justice.

HPU Sharon Taylor

Sharon Taylor

Sharon Taylor joined the School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences as administrative assistant.

Taylor is the administrative assistant to the departments of English, criminal justice, political science and sociology/anthropology. Before coming to HPU, she was the human resource/office manager for National Pipe. She attended Guilford Technical Community College with a focus on business administration. She holds certificates for OSHA for general industry and Spanish for the workplace.

HPU Beth McKinney

Beth McKinney

Beth McKinney joined HPU as administrative assistant for the School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences.

As the administrative assistant to the interim dean of the School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, McKinney contributes to a variety of support to the office, such as assisting students and coordinating meetings and communication between the chairs of the nine departments of the school. Before joining the staff at HPU, she worked in nonprofit leadership at the YMCA of Greensboro. She holds a Bachelor of Science in marketing.

HPU Davis Shoener

Davis Shoener

Davis Shoener joined HPU’s Office of Communications as a member of Campus Concierge.

Shoener is a member of Campus Concierge, HPU’s central source of knowledge for all campus and community information, where he assists students and visitors. He also focuses on HPU event scheduling. Shoener is an HPU graduate and works to provide the same extraordinary experience he received during his time at HPU. As a student, he participated in multiple semesters of undergraduate research in the Congdon School of Health Sciences Human Biomechanics and Physiology Lab. Shoener earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science with a concentration in biomechanics from HPU in 2020.

HPU Tara Shtayyeh

Tara Shtayyeh

Tara Shtayyeh joined HPU’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an ambassador counselor.

Shtayyeh helps prospective students who are visiting High Point University to gain knowledge about the university. She helps families experience HPU’s campus in person and provides information sessions about HPU’s ecosystem of support and mentorship. She earned her Bachelor of Science in psychology from High Point University and was a student worker in various positions across campus.

HPU Jaime Tamsin

Jaime Tamsin

Jaime Tamsin joined HPU’s Office of Communications as director of conference and event services.

Tamsin will oversee all conferences and related events hosted at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center. She is responsible for conference center facility reservations, serving as the liaison between the university and support staff such as Hospitality, Campus Enhancement, Security and Transportation. She will also train and supervise student interns who will benefit from a variety of experiential learning opportunities in the facility. Tamsin’s background includes working as event manager at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas and the director of special events for Segra Park and the Columbia Fireflies in Columbia, South Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Science in sport and entertainment management.

HPU Brooke Lutz

Brooke Lutz joined the Office of the University Registrar as a registrar transcript coordinator.

Lutz is responsible for managing transcript requests both online and in-person, processing enrollment verifications, loan deferment requests and supervising student workers. Prior to coming to HPU, she was an enrollment specialist at Texas A&M University where she contributed to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled and underrepresented students by providing an in-depth understanding of admissions requirements, registration, financial aid and student financial billing. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health promotion and a minor in nutrition.

HPU Steve Sawicki

Steve Sawicki

Steven Sawicki joined HPU as the technical director of theater.

In this role, Sawicki collaborates with directors, designers and choreographers. He oversees all construction of the scenic elements for the Departments of Theater and Dance Productions. As an instructor, he will be teaching the Stagecraft: Theory and Practice course, which instructs students on the art and craft involved in producing a theatrical production. His experience incorporates a variety of theater positions including technical direction, carpentry, manager and actor. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in theatre, Bachelor of Science in nursing and a Master of Fine Arts in technical production.

HPU Stan Turbeville

Stan Turbeville joined HPU as the Siegfried Leadership Fellows Program Associate.

Dr. Stan Turbeville joined HPU as program associate for the Siegfried Leadership Program, a highly selective, innovative experience designed to educate and empower aspiring leaders to learn more about themselves, understand others, be civically involved and maximize their personal and professional success. Turbeville’s career in higher education spans more than 12 years with the last five years serving as vice president of institutional advancement within the community college sector in both North Carolina and Virginia. Turbeville has more than 15 years in corporate marketing and human resources. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a graduate degree in English. Turbeville is a 2008 graduate with an MBA from High Point University and holds a doctorate in leadership studies.

HPU Diana Marsh

Diana Marsh

Diana Marsh joined HPU Health and Wellness as a clinical counselor.

Marsh collaborates with a team of licensed mental health clinicians to provide a wide variety of mental health services, outreach, prevention and counseling. She provides substance abuse education and collaborates with the prevention specialist to create, implement and facilitate assessments and support programs. Marsh previously worked in community mental health, addiction treatment, military case management and higher education. She holds an associate degree in human services with a substance abuse concentration, a Bachelor of Arts in social work and a Master of Arts in social work. She is fully licensed by the North Carolina Addictions Professional Practice Board and provisionally licensed by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.
