Wake Forest defeated Appalachian State at 15-7 during Tuesday night’s game at David F. Couch Ballpark. Demon Deacons’ six home runs were part of the win, which according to Head Coach Tom Walter, was a solid one.
Freshman Reed Mascolo took the mound for the team, throwing a good first inning. The back-to-back-to-back solo home runs from Brock Wilken, Shane Muntz and Michael Ludowig made a 7-0 mark on the scoreboard.
While the Appalachian State Mountaineers scored in the fourth inning, the Deacs made it difficult for the Mountaineers to catch up, with another home run from Wilken and another one from Adam Cecere. Though the Mountaineers made three home runs, Lucas Costello’s grand slam off the bat gave the Deacs a comeback.

“The best thing about tonight was that we were able to rest our four main bullpen pieces that have been getting a lot of work,” Walter told 247sports. "Oxford, Furtado, Alder, and Minacci didn't have to pitch tonight which was huge headed into the weekend … Those guys have been getting a ton of work. It's good to see us start to get extra base hits. The back-to-back-to-back set up the game for us to win and be able to pitch some guys that hadn't thrown a whole lot, and get the guys rest that needed rest. So it was a good team win."
Walter had a lot to say about the game, recognizing every player's effort. Muntz and Ludogwig swung the bat really well during the game, Mascolo’s first three innings were good, it was a good throw from Cole McNamee, and it was good to see Crawford Wade and Teddy McGraw at the game making some victories. He’s happy to note that the Deacon has made 12 home runs in the last five games.
The back-to-back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning from Wilken, Ludogwig and Muntz recorded the first time the Deacons hit three consecutive home runs since Wake Forest accomplished this feat against Division II C.W. Post on March 26, 1991.
This is the first time the Demon Deacons hit six home runs in a game since Wake Forest raked six balls out of the park against USC on February 24, 2017.
