Wake Forest head basketball coach Steve Forbes’ first recruiting class is in the books with a heavy emphasis on the backcourt.

The Demon Deacons will welcome three guards who combined give the program the 23rd ranked class in the nation 24/7 Sports reported. The incoming class is headlined by Carter Whitt, a 6-foot-4-inch guard out of Brewster Academy who is ranked as the second-best player in the state, the No. 10 point guard in the nation and 64th overall. Whitt is also ranked in the Top 100 nationally by Nike at 86 and 63 by Rivals Top150.

“Carter is an outstanding passer and one of the elite point guards in the class of 2021,” Forbes said in a release. ”He plays the game with tremendous confidence, unflappable poise and he understands the game like a coach on the floor. Carter distributes the ball on time and on target and scores the ball with ease from three or off the dribble.”

As a junior, Whitt averaged 22.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.3 assists. His high school basketball coach referred to him as a "basketball savant," The Fayetteville Observer reported.

A scouting report produced by Jerry Meyer, director of basketball scouting for 24/7 Sports, indicated Whitt has good length for a guard, a top-of-the-line passer and he can fill out physically. An above-average athlete, Whitt can keep defenses honest but needs to improve his shot, he noted. Defensively, there is work to be done but Whitt is a willing worker and will show up in the hustle categories of a stat box, 247 Sports reported.

Whitt received offers from high-profile programs such as Virginia, Florida, Indiana, Maryland and North Carolina State. He will be joined by Cameron Hildreth, a 6-foot-5-inch guard out of England and Robert McCray, a 6-foot-4-inch guard from South Carolina 24/7 Sports reported. The Demon Deacons are coming off of a 13-18 record overall and 6-14 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The team is off to a 2-0 start on the new season but has struggled with COVID-19 cases.

Whitt is a legacy at Wake Forest as his father graduated from the university in 1989. He is projected to graduate high school this month and join the program on campus in leading into the spring semester.
