Salemtowne remained under the ownership of Moravian Home Incorporated in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Located in Forsyth County, the nursing facility has been part of Moravian Home Incorporated’s portfolio since Nov. 19, 2009.

The facility is classified as a non-profit nursing home.

During this timeframe, Salemtowne held an overall CMS rating of four, surpassing the North Carolina state nursing home average of 2.9. CMS ratings are based on critical measures including health inspections, staffing, and resident care quality.

Records indicate Salemtowne cared for an average census of 92.8 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026, with a total of 100 beds available. The facility does not operate as a hospital-based nursing home.

Salemtowne reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Forsyth County, North Carolina, had five non-profit nursing home providers in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the population of older adults in the country continues to climb while younger age groups are declining. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans aged 65 and over grew by 13%, while the population under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the last century, the older adult demographic has expanded sharply, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

Research published in 2021 indicated that about half of this population, or roughly 28 million people, are likely to need long-term services and support eventually, with projections showing that more than one-third could require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
