Novant Health has announced a restructuring of its leadership model to improve the scalability and agility of its operations. The nonprofit healthcare system, which serves communities in North and South Carolina, aims to extend its model of care across the rapidly expanding Southeastern United States.
Over the past year, the organization has seen significant improvements in safety, quality, and patient experience. Novant Health President and CEO Carl S. Armato emphasized the need for evolving leadership to meet healthcare challenges, stating, “To deliver on Our Cause, we are embracing the changing health care landscape and must evolve our leadership operating model and perform differently to achieve our aspirations.”
The new leadership model introduces acute and ambulatory operating units that span regions, including the Charlotte, Triad, Coastal, and South Carolina Regions. Each region will be overseen by a president responsible for ensuring a seamless patient experience. The model also strengthens connections between clinical, strategy, and operations through new senior vice president roles focused on nursing, clinical services, and integrated care solutions.
Integration of Novant Health Enterprises across the organization is a key aspect of the changes, which aim to drive innovation and growth. Novant Health Enterprises was established in 2022 to promote clinical, operational, and technological progress.
Highlights of the new operating model include fostering transformative care delivery, forming new affiliations with other healthcare providers, enhancing collaboration, and accelerating strategic growth.
Several individuals have been appointed to new or expanded roles within the restructured organization. John Gizdic takes on responsibilities that include acute care and integrated solutions. Dean Swindle will manage ambulatory care and growth regions. Saad Ehtisham becomes senior vice president of acute operations, among others.
Novant Health operates an integrated network of over 900 locations, aiming to provide personalized healthcare experiences. The organization remains committed to safety and high-quality care, underpinned by a workforce of over 40,000 team members and 8,500 clinicians.
