Novant Health has announced the opening of a new orthopedic clinic in Beaufort, incorporating experienced surgeons Dr. Edward Blocker and Dr. Kevin Jones. Both surgeons, who have practiced in Beaufort for several years, will operate from the new clinic at 97 Sea Island Parkway.

The initiative is part of Novant Health’s strategy to enhance access to specialized care services in the area. Drs. Blocker and Jones collectively bring years of experience and a dedication to treating musculoskeletal conditions. The clinic will also implement a Mako robotic system to aid in precise, minimally invasive joint replacement surgeries at Coastal Carolina Hospital.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Blocker and Dr. Jones to the Novant Health family,” stated Ryan Lee, the president of Coastal Carolina Hospital. “Their expertise, dedication to patient-centered care, and commitment to advancing orthopedic treatments align perfectly with our mission. This expansion is just the beginning of our ongoing investment in enhancing specialty services across the region.”

Dr. Jones, who focuses on hip and knee arthritis, expressed enthusiasm regarding robotic-assisted procedures. “I am excited to be part of such a comprehensive orthopedic team and will be using the Mako robot for virtually all of my total hip and knee replacements,” said Jones. “The precision and scientific approach of robotic-assisted surgery not only ensures better outcomes but also promotes faster recovery for patients.”

Jones added, “It’s incredibly rewarding to help patients return to their active lifestyles, particularly our vibrant retired community here in Beaufort.”

Dr. Blocker, recognized for his work in lower extremity arthritis and joint replacement surgery, shared his excitement about joining Novant Health. “Novant Health’s strong focus on the patient resonates with me,” stated Blocker. “The organization places patients at the center of everything we do, which is exactly what I value in my practice. While I specialize in arthritis treatment, I also enjoy treating a variety of hand conditions, including trigger finger and carpal tunnel.”

The clinic will be further supported by advanced practice providers Sarah Blau, PA-C, Paul Schaefer, PA-C, and William Schreffler, NP. Another orthopedic surgeon and a physician assistant are expected to join by spring.

The establishment of this new clinic and the introduction of the Mako system are significant investments in orthopedic care for the Beaufort community, marking Novant Health’s commitment to advancing local healthcare. Both Drs. Blocker and Jones are expected to significantly enhance the orthopedic care available in the region.

About Novant Health: The organization operates over 900 locations, including hospitals, clinics, and other facilities across North and South Carolina, providing a network intended to offer a seamless healthcare experience with a focus on safety and quality.
