The Office of Sustainability in Winston-Salem is now accepting nominations for individuals who are making significant contributions to sustainability efforts in the city. Those selected as winners will be recognized at the Piedmont Environmental Alliance Fair, scheduled for April 18, 2026.
The City of Winston-Salem operates as a municipal government that oversees local public services and community operations for its residents. The city provides utilities such as water and waste management, supports business growth, and offers access to services like CityLink for reporting issues. It is managed by a council and mayor who are responsible for budgets and local regulations (https://www.cityofws.org/).
In addition to these responsibilities, the city manages infrastructure including water treatment plants capable of processing large volumes daily, maintains extensive water mains and sewer lines, and delivers other essential services within its municipal boundaries in North Carolina (https://www.cityofws.org/). The City Council holds authority over enacting local laws, approving budgets, setting taxes, and supporting economic development initiatives aimed at fostering community growth (https://www.cityofws.org/).
The Office of Sustainability’s nomination process highlights ongoing efforts to encourage sustainable practices throughout Winston-Salem.
