The city’s annual bulky item collection is set to commence on March 3 and will continue until September 5. The collection service, organized by the Sanitation Department, will cover city streets systematically, picking up items that regular garbage services do not handle. Residents can place furniture, mattresses, appliances, grills, carpets, old toys, and lawn furniture for collection.

However, the city has specified certain items that cannot be collected. These include televisions, computer equipment, wood, lumber, building materials, glass, tires, car parts, oil drums, cement rocks and hazardous or infectious materials. It is important not to mix bulky items with recyclables or yard waste.

This service is available exclusively for single-family residences and does not extend to businesses or apartment complexes. To inform residents of their specific collection dates within neighborhoods, the department will send postcards in advance. Crews will visit each neighborhood only once; therefore residents must ensure their items are placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the Monday of their designated week.

For further convenience in checking collection dates, residents can download the WS Collects app or visit CityOfWS.org/BulkyItems and use the “Online Address Search.” Those without internet access may contact CityLink at 311 or 336-727-8000 for assistance from a CityLink agent.
