City offices in [City Name] will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This holiday will result in some changes to city operations.

All yard-waste collections for the week of Jan. 14 will be postponed by one day. This means that Monday’s collections will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 16; Tuesday’s collections on Wednesday, Jan. 17; Wednesday’s collections on Thursday, Jan. 18; and Thursday’s collections on Friday, Jan. 19.

Fortunately, there will be no changes to the regular garbage or recycling collections. Residents can continue to follow their usual schedules for disposing of waste.

The CityLink 311 call center, which provides citizen services, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15. However, non-emergency calls will be forwarded to on-call staff from the relevant departments. For routine information or services, residents may submit requests via email to CityOfWS.org or through the CityLink 311 mobile app. Alternatively, they can text 855-481-LINK (5465) for an immediate response.

It is important to note that the Hanes Mill Road Solid Waste Facility will close early at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15. In addition, the Forum 52 and Overdale Road yard waste facilities, the Old Salisbury Road Landfill, and the 3RC EnviroStation will all be closed for the day.

These changes in city operations are necessary to allow city employees to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and honor the legacy of the civil rights leader. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and adjust their schedules to accommodate these temporary adjustments.

As a reminder, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of January each year. It is a time to reflect on the contributions of Dr. King and the ongoing fight for equality and justice in our society.

In the words of Dr. King himself, “The time is always right to do what is right.” Let us use this holiday as an opportunity to come together and work towards a better future for all.
