The Carolina University Women’s Basketball team began their Central Atlantic Conference (CAC) season with a 57–47 home win over Morris College at Williams Gymnasium on Wednesday. This victory follows a challenging non-conference schedule that included games against nationally ranked opponents.
Entering the game with a 1–8 record, the Lady Bruins aimed to start conference play on a positive note. Morris College, holding a 3–2 record, opened the contest strongly. The first quarter ended with Carolina leading 10–8, and both teams scored 14 points in the second quarter, resulting in a close halftime score.
After halftime, Carolina took control of the game by scoring 22 points in the third quarter and building their lead to as much as 21 points. Despite a late effort from Morris College in the fourth quarter, Carolina maintained its advantage to secure its first CAC win of the season.
Jakyiiah Willis led Carolina with 16 points and seven rebounds. Angelina Jordan contributed 15 points, including three three-pointers. MeiLani Patterson recorded a double-double with 15 rebounds and 12 points. As a team, Carolina shot 35.6% from the field and made 87.5% of their free throws.
Head Coach Hannah Latiolais commented after the game: “After a really tough non-conference stretch, it feels like we’re starting to turn the corner and come together as a team. I’m incredibly proud of our toughness and the way we battled today. To fight it out and earn our first conference win says a lot about this group and the direction we’re heading.”
With this result, Carolina starts CAC play at 1–0 and improves its overall record to 2–8.
The Lady Bruins will next play West Virginia Tech at home on Saturday, December 13 at Williams Gymnasium.
