After hosting a Continental Athletic Conference pod at home, the Carolina University Bruins Women’s Basketball Team traveled to South Florida for a two-game road series against Florida National University and the University of Fort Lauderdale.
On Friday afternoon, Carolina faced Florida National and lost 86–83. The Bruins overcame an early deficit and outscored their opponent 30–16 in the third quarter to get back into the game. Senior Jakyiiah Willis led all scorers with 27 points, while Mya Smith recorded a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Despite the comeback effort, Florida National secured the win in the closing minutes.
The following day, Carolina earned an 85–79 victory over Fort Lauderdale. The team displayed balanced scoring with four players reaching double digits: Angelina Jordan, Jakyiiah Willis, and MeiLani Patterson each scored 18 points. Dearia Page added 17 points along with a team-high 13 assists, while Mya Smith collected 10 rebounds.
Head Coach Hannah Latiolais commented on her team’s performance: “I loved our resilience,” Latiolais said. “Friday was a tough one, but the way we came back on Saturday showed our growth. We played together, shared the ball, and stayed composed when it mattered most.”
Carolina participates in both conference and non-conference games as part of its athletic program. The team is part of the Ohio Athletic Conference and competes under NCAA Division III guidelines while based in Bexley, Ohio official website. The program helps student-athletes balance academic responsibilities with athletics and contributes to the university’s athletic heritage.
With this split result on their Miami road trip, Carolina returns home aiming to build on their recent performance as they continue through the season.
