Carolina University Women’s Basketball secured a 78–72 victory over Elizabeth City State University on Sunday at Williams Gymnasium. Both teams entered the game with losing records—Carolina at 2–12 and Elizabeth City State at 3–11—but played competitively throughout.
Carolina led after the first quarter, but Elizabeth City State responded in the second, holding a ten-point advantage at halftime. The third quarter was closely contested, with Elizabeth City State slightly outscoring Carolina. In the fourth quarter, Carolina mounted a comeback, outscoring their opponents 31–14 to win the game.
Junior guard Dearia Page recorded a career-high 35 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for a double-double. Jakyiiah Willis added 14 points, and Mya Smith contributed 10 points. The Bruins converted nearly 77 percent of their free throws and forced 22 turnovers, turning those into 26 points.
After the game, Head Coach Hannah Latiolais said: “This group has faced a lot of adversity and a very tough schedule, but they never stopped competing. I was proud of the way we stayed together, trusted one another, and finished the game with confidence and toughness.”
The win moves Carolina to a record of 3–13 for the season. Their next matchup is against Morris College on Saturday, January 17.
