As the 2025–26 season progresses, the Carolina University Women’s Basketball team is preparing for their upcoming appearance at the Shawnee State Classic. The Bruins, led by first-year Head Coach Hannah Latialois, are seeking their first win after starting the season with four losses. Despite this record, the coaching staff has observed steady improvement and more competitive play.
Carolina University will face West Virginia Tech on Friday, November 14, at 6:00 PM in Portsmouth, Ohio. This marks the second meeting between these teams within two weeks. In their previous matchup on November 4, West Virginia Tech defeated Carolina University 80–63.
Coach Latialois commented on the team’s development since that game. “We’ve taken some tough lessons in these first four games, but the growth is real,” said Latialois. “We’ve made adjustments, and our group is learning how to compete at a high level for 40 minutes. Facing West Virginia Tech again gives us a clear benchmark of our progress. Our focus is on execution, defending with pride, and bringing energy from the jump.”
West Virginia Tech enters this contest with a record of two wins and one loss. Their most recent game resulted in an 84–61 defeat against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
For Carolina University, participating in the Shawnee State Classic is seen as a chance to further develop team identity and chemistry. The roster includes four returning players alongside many newcomers this season.
“We’re learning every day, and these games are valuable experiences for such a new group,” Latialois added. “The commitment, attitude, and willingness to fight are there. Now it’s about putting the pieces together.”
Carolina University will play two games during their time at the Shawnee State Classic as they continue working toward positive results.
