The Carolina University Women’s Basketball team will play its second game of the 2025–26 season on Tuesday, November 4, facing West Virginia Tech in Beckley, West Virginia. The matchup is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

This game marks the second consecutive road contest for the Bruins under new Head Coach Hannah Latiolais. The current roster includes both returning players and newcomers.

Carolina enters the game with a record of 0–1 after losing to Georgetown (Ky.) last Friday by a score of 109–60. Despite the loss, there were some positive individual performances. Junior guard Dearia Page led all scorers with 23 points on 61% shooting and added nine rebounds. Sophomore MeiLani Patterson contributed nine points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Sy-Marieona Williams had 10 points and four rebounds.

As a team, Carolina recorded 45 total rebounds, including 15 offensive boards. However, they committed 19 turnovers in their opener and shot 33.3% from the field and 21.1% from three-point range.

West Virginia Tech comes into Tuesday’s game with a win in its season opener against Ohio Christian University, finishing with an 82–74 victory at home. The Golden Bears shot over 44% from the floor and made more than 74% of their free throws. Four players scored in double figures for WVU Tech: Cadence Stewart led with 18 points and six assists; Liz Cadle added 13 points off the bench; Avery Lucas and Halle Crouse each scored 11 points. The team also generated significant scoring from turnovers and bench contributions.

Coach Hannah Latiolais commented on her team’s approach early in her first season: “Our focus is on playing with relentless energy and commitment on the defensive end,” said Latiolais. “We want to pride ourselves on rebounding and applying pressure for 40 minutes. Every possession is an opportunity to improve and build our identity.”

Key factors for Tuesday’s matchup include Carolina’s defensive response against WVU Tech’s ball movement and outside shooting, efforts to balance scoring beyond leading scorer Page, control of rebounding by both teams, and improvement in turnover margin after Carolina’s -10 deficit in its opener.

After Tuesday’s contest at WVU Tech, Carolina will continue its road schedule before hosting its home opener later this month at Williams Gymnasium in Winston-Salem.
