Carolina University Women’s Basketball team played against Livingstone College on Wednesday evening in Salisbury, North Carolina, following a break for Thanksgiving. The Bruins entered the game after securing their first win of the season against Paine College on November 22. However, they were unable to continue their momentum and lost to Livingstone by a score of 77–41 at New Trent Gym.

Livingstone established an early lead and maintained control throughout the game, outscoring Carolina in every quarter. Ja’Nisha Caldwell led the Bruins with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Jakyiiah Willis added 9 points and was perfect from the free-throw line, making all four attempts. The team collected a total of 37 rebounds, with Caldwell leading in that category.

Carolina struggled offensively, converting only 15 of their 78 field goal attempts and making just four out of 33 shots from three-point range. On defense, the Bruins forced several turnovers and continued to demonstrate progress emphasized by head coach Hannah Latiolais during this competitive stretch of the season.

The loss is part of a challenging non-conference schedule that includes games against multiple Top-25 teams. Coach Latiolais has stated that these experiences are important for developing her young roster as the season continues.

With a current record of 1–7, Carolina will next face another nationally ranked opponent when they travel to play No. 13 Rio Grande on Saturday, December 6. In their previous meeting earlier this season, Rio Grande defeated Carolina with a score of 108–53. The Bruins plan to use this rematch as an opportunity to demonstrate their growth and approach the game with renewed energy.

The upcoming game at Rio Grande is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
