Carolina University women’s basketball falls to Georgetown College in season opener

Georgetown, Kentucky – The Carolina University Bruins women’s basketball team opened their season with a road game against Georgetown College, falling 109–60 at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. The matchup marked the debut of Head Coach Hannah Latiolais for the Bruins.

Carolina stayed close in the first quarter, trailing only 24–19 after ten minutes. Dearia Page led the Bruins with 23 points and nine rebounds. Graduate guard Sy-Marieona Williams contributed 10 points, including two three-pointers. MeiLani Patterson and Ja’Nisha Caldwell each added nine points, while Aniyah Robinson collected six rebounds and two steals.

Georgetown College gained momentum as the game progressed, using size and outside shooting to widen their lead. Daysha Reid scored 36 points for Georgetown, which hit 16 out of 37 three-point attempts (43%) and finished with a total of 54 rebounds compared to Carolina’s 45.

Coach Latiolais commented on her team’s performance: “We knew this was going to be a tough early test against a very strong and experienced program,” Latiolais said. “Our focus is on growth and learning from each possession. I’m proud of how our players competed, especially in those opening quarters. These moments are part of the process as we continue to build our identity and chemistry together.”

The Bruins shot 33.3% from the field and recorded six steals during the contest. With this result, Carolina starts their season at 0–1 while Georgetown improves to 4–0.
