The Carolina University Bruins softball team ended its three-game winning streak on April 8 after losing both games of a doubleheader against Georgia Gwinnett at Wilson Park.
The matchups were significant as they pitted the Bruins against the top team in their conference. The games highlighted the team’s competitive spirit and growth, according to Interim Head Coach Danielle Brooks. “I’m proud of how our team competed today against the top team in the conference,” Brooks said. “We showed growth, especially in Game 2, and we’ll build on this as we prepare for the weekend.”
In Game 1, Carolina kept pace early by scoring runs in the second and third innings but ultimately lost 11-3 after a late surge from Georgia Gwinnett. The Bruins collected four hits, with Anni Bergmeier driving in a run and Stacie Sanders and Lexi Hall each recording hits and runs scored. Carolina managed to tie the game at 3-3 before Georgia Gwinnett broke away with a six-run sixth inning.
Game 2 saw an improved effort from Carolina as they outhit Georgia Gwinnett nine to four but fell short with a final score of 5-4. Emma-Lea Cabral contributed a two-RBI single during a three-run fifth inning rally, while Bergmeier led offensively going two-for-four with a triple. Defensive errors played a role as Carolina committed seven errors despite holding their opponent to just four hits.
The Carolina University Bruins Softball Team takes part in conference and non-conference games during its season, according to the official website.
