Carolina University Bruins Softball lost both games of a doubleheader against Greensboro College at Wilson Park, according to an April 14 announcement. The Bruins fell 11-2 in the first game and 9-6 in extra innings during the second contest.
The results highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the team as they balance conference and non-conference play during their season, according to the official website. In game one, Carolina University took an early lead with Nathaly Ochoa tripling and scoring on Chloe Herbster’s RBI single. Emma-Lea Cabral added a solo home run in the fourth inning, but Greensboro responded with strong offensive innings, including five runs in the third and six more in the fifth. Madison Hamilton was charged with the loss while Ellie Haas provided relief pitching.
In game two, Carolina showed improvement at bat and maintained pressure on base runners. The team scored five runs through three innings, highlighted by Cabral’s two-RBI single. However, after Greensboro tied late in regulation play, they secured victory with a four-run eighth inning. Anni Bergmeier pitched a complete game for Carolina but allowed nine runs on sixteen hits while striking out four.
“We showed resilience in the second game and competed much better at the plate,” said Interim Head Coach Danielle Brooks. “We just have to clean up a few things defensively and stay consistent for all seven innings. I’m proud of the fight, and we’ll be ready for the next opportunity.”
The Carolina University Bruins Softball Team competes under its university’s athletics program within NCAA Division III as part of the Ohio Athletic Conference according to its official website. The program also assists student-athletes with balancing academic responsibilities alongside athletic commitments according to its official website.
Looking ahead, Carolina University will host Paine College on Wednesday as it continues its softball season.
