The Carolina University Bruins Softball team lost both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Montreat College on April 11, according to a statement released April 12. The games were played at Roxy Hines Field in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

The losses are part of the team’s ongoing season, which includes both conference and non-conference matchups according to the official website. In the first game, Carolina scored early with Nathaly Ochoa hitting a leadoff single and later scoring on an RBI single from Emma-Lea Cabral. The team added another run in the third inning but could not keep up as Montreat scored 14 runs between the second and fourth innings for a 15-2 win. Madison Hamilton took the loss as pitcher, with relief from Anni Bergmeier and Ellie Haas.

During game two, Carolina collected seven hits and scored in three separate innings. Madison Hamilton contributed an RBI single in the second inning. Despite these efforts, Montreat maintained steady offensive pressure for a final score of 12-4. Chloe Herbster started as pitcher for Carolina before Hamilton entered in relief.

Interim Head Coach Danielle Brooks said, “We faced a tough opponent today, but there were still positives we can build on. I was proud of the way we continued to compete at the plate and create opportunities offensively. We’ll focus on tightening things up defensively and in the circle as we prepare for Monday.”

The Bruins function within NCAA Division III as members of the Ohio Athletic Conference according to their official website, operating from Bexley, Ohio according to their official website. The team will return home on April 13 to host Greensboro College for another doubleheader.
